Submit your work for our contemporary photography group exhibition.

The exhibition will take place in Cambrdige, UK from October 09 to October 11.

Each selected artist will have their work printed and exhibited as part of the exhibition. Artists will also be featured on our Instagram page and receive a digital certificate of participation.

Submissions for this open call can include both singles or series

If your work is selected, a participation fee of £30 will apply.

THEME

Our first annual physical exhibition marks an important milestone for Cambridge Photography Gallery. It brings together invited artists from our previous exhibitions alongside new voices yet to be discovered through this open call.

Rather than setting a narrow theme, we wanted to leave space for interpretation.

How does your photography unfold?

Perhaps it unfolds as a story? Or a memory, a place, a relationship? Maybe an identity or a way of seeing? Perhaps it unfolds through personal experience, social issues, constructed narratives, documentary practice, or something that resists categorisation altogether.

Some projects reveal themselves slowly, while others leave questions unanswered. Some look outward, others inward.

As always, there is no right or wrong interpretation. What matters most is your voice, your vision, and the way your work unfolds before the viewer.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please include the following information in your email:

  • Your Name

  • Your Country

  • Title of your work

  • A Short description of your work (optional)

  • A link to your Website or Instagram (optional)

  • An Artist statement or Bio (optional)

  • Your images as attachments or as a link to cloud storage (Google Drive, Swisstransfer, etc.)

Make sure that we can download the files without requesting access.

Image Guidelines

We don't want to limit you with strict technical requirements.

For the selection stage, your submission files can be of any size, format or orientation.

If your work is selected, we'll ask you to provide high-resolution files suitable for printing (approximately 300 ppi and at least 3000 pixels on the longest side, where possible).

If your images don’t fit as attachments, include a download link (Google Drive, Swisstransfer, etc.)

EXHIBITION BENEFITS

  • Selected works will be printed and presented as part of our annual physical group exhibition in Cambridge, UK, taking place from 9–11 October 2026.

  • Each participating artist will receive a dedicated post on our Instagram page, which currently has over 1400 engaged followers and continues to grow.

  • Every selected artist will receive a digital certificate of participation confirming their inclusion in the exhibition, suitable for their portfolio or CV.

  • The exhibition will be promoted through our existing channels, as well as through local arts and photography communities in Cambridge, helping introduce participating artists' work to a wider audience.

FAQ

  • Yes, absolutely. You keep all rights to your work. By submitting, you only grant us permission to publish your images on our website and social media in the context of this exhibition and related promotion.

  • Yes, previously exhibited or published works are welcome.

  • No, AI-generated images are not accepted.

    You may use AI tools as part of the workflow or editing process of your photographs, but fully AI-generated images are not accepted.

  • Yes. All formats and approaches are welcome.

  • We’ll contact you by email.


    Depending on the number of submissions, the review process may take some time. In many cases, the final decision may be made after the submission deadline has passed.

    We’ll also inform you if your work is not selected, so you’re not left waiting.

  • A short description or a project description is a brief text outlining your work — its concept, context, or what inspired it. We believe that a description can help viewers better understand your work and serve as a key to the artist’s world.

    At the same time, we understand that not every photograph requires an explanation. In some cases (especially with a single image) the work may speak for itself. Therefore, including a description is optional, and the decision is entirely up to you.

  • There is no fixed limit on the number of images you can submit. We welcome both single photographs and photographic series, and we encourage you to present your work in the way that best represents your project.

    At the same time, as this is a relatively small group exhibition, we ask artists to keep the scale of their projects in mind. Larger series may need to be presented in a smaller format or carefully edited to work within the available exhibition space.

    The final number and presentation format will be discussed individually with selected artists to ensure that each project is displayed in the best possible way.

  • We accept payments via Stripe or PayPal. If your work is selected, we will send you a payment link with further details.

A few practical questions

  • This exhibition will take place at Cambridge Artworks, an independent gallery space approximately a 10-minute walk from Cambridge city centre.

    We know our name can sometimes cause a little confusion. Cambridge Photography Gallery is not a permanent physical gallery. Well, at least not yet.

    Instead, we currently operate as an online and nomadic gallery, organising online exhibitions and temporary physical events in different spaces. This allows us to focus our time and resources on creating thoughtful exhibitions, rather than simply running endless open calls.

  • The participation fee helps us cover part of the costs of organising the exhibition, including venue hire, printing, installation, promotion, and administration.

    If your work is selected, the participation fee is the only fee you'll be asked to pay. There are no additional charges for printing, installation or exhibiting your work.

  • Yes. Original exhibition prints will be available for purchase throughout the exhibition.

    However, sales are not the goal of this exhibition. Photography is already a challenging medium to sell, and complex photographic work or projects can be even more difficult than decorative prints.

    We see sales as an opportunity for visitors to support participating artists and take home a work they genuinely connect with, rather than as the main purpose of the exhibition.

  • As the exhibition space is not big, we are planning to feature approximately 10-15 artists.

    The final number will depend on the selected works, as some projects may require more space than others.

  • We'll print and install all selected work ourselves. Most prints will likely be around A4 in size, although the final size will depend on each individual project and how it works best within the exhibition space. Some projects may benefit from smaller prints, while others may require larger formats.

    If you prefer to print your own work, you're very welcome to do so and send your exhibition-ready prints to us by post. We would be happy to discuss print size and format with selected artists individually.
