Open Call

Seen and Unseen

Black and white photo of a leafless tree with a large nest or ball at the top, large blue circular shape and white splashes in the sky.

We invite photographers to submit their work for our first curated online exhibition.
The show will be presented on this website from November 15 to November 30.

Each selected artist will receive a digital certificate of participation and will be featured on our Instagram page.

Submissions can include both projects and single images.

Submission is free.
If your work is selected, a participation fee of £15 will apply.
Submission deadline: November 10.

THEME

We love photography for its ability to document reality and freeze a moment in time.
But just as much, we love it for its power to go beyond reality — to stir emotions, evoke meanings, and open new ways of seeing.

Through the unique language of visual poetry, photography transforms from a tool of documentation into a medium of expression.

For this open call, we invite photographers to explore both the visible and the hidden, the noticed and the overlooked.

Show us your vision of the theme “Seen and Unseen”. Will it be something elusive or something real? That depends on you. After all, an exhibition is not only the result of curatorial selection, but also a reflection of how photographers themselves see the theme.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Send an email to info@cambridgephotographygallery.com

Please include the following information in your email:

  • Your Name

  • Your Country

  • A link to your Website or Instagram (optional)

  • An Artist Statement (optional)

  • Your images as attachments or as a link to cloud storage (Google Drive, Swisstransfer, etc.)

Make sure that we can download the files without requesting access.

Single Images or Projects

The exhibition will feature both single images and projects, so you are free to submit either.

If submitting single images, feel free to send several — we’ll consider which ones fit best with the exhibition.

If submitting a project, please include a title and a short text or statement if it helps to understand your idea. Please number the files in the order you want them to be viewed.

We don’t want to restrict you with strict technical requirements. Your photographs can be of any size, format, or orientation.
However, for general convenience, please keep these simple rules in mind:

  • If your images don’t fit as attachments, include a download link (Google Drive, Swisstransfer, etc.)

  • Make sure links are accessible for download

  • File names and dimensions are flexible — just be reasonable and keep in mind that during the exhibition your images may be convert to suitable size and format for online display

Image Guidelines

  • Yes, absolutely. You keep all rights to your work. By submitting, you only grant us permission to publish your images on our website and social media in the context of this exhibition and related promotion.

  • As many as you feel necessary to express your idea.
We don’t want to limit the size of your project, but please keep it within reason. If your project is selected, all submitted images from that project will be included in the exhibition.
You can send several single images and we’ll select which ones to feature.

  • Yes, but please send them as two separate submissions.
This helps us review and organize entries more clearly.

  • Any format is acceptable.
But for consistency in the online exhibition, all selected works will be displayed as JPEG (sRGB).

  • No cover image is needed — all photographs will be displayed as part of a unified online exhibition layout.

  • An artist statement is a short text describing your project — its concept, context, or what inspired it.
We believe a statement helps viewers better understand your work. It’s recommended for projects, but optional for single images.

  • The participation fee helps us cover the administrative costs of running the exhibition.
We’re a small independent initiative — our goal is not profit, but sustainability.

  • No. Vanity galleries exist to profit from artists.
We exist to support artists — to give them space, visibility, and grow together as a creative community.

  • Currently, we accept PayPal only.
If your work is selected, we’ll send you a payment link via email.

  • Yes — the £15 participation fee is fixed per selected participant, not per image.
We believe this approach is fairer and avoids the idea of “paying for visibility.”

  • We’ll contact you by email.
Depending on the number of submissions, the review process may take some time.
We’ll also inform you if your work is not selected, so you’re not left waiting.

  • Of course.
Please mention this in your email and number your files to show the intended order.

  • Yes — until the deadline.
Just contact us at info@cambridgephotographygallery.com with the changes you’d like to make.

  • Yes, previously exhibited or published works are welcome.
